Happy pets, happy owners

Paws for Thought While it is one of life’s greatest

pleasures to see a dog sticking its head out of the car window, your breeze-loving boy may also land you in a spot of hot water. Under rule 57 of the Highway Code, all pets travelling in cars must be properly secured or owners could face a £2,500 fine, invalid insurance and loss of license. It is also very dangerous for a pet to risk being thrown about the car if you have an accident or brake suddenly. At Pets are Pals, we sell a range of travel guides such as harnesses and seatbelts, safety nets for the boot and pet carriers for long distances.

It is also essential to carry plenty of water and never leave a pet unattended in the car. Doggie water bottles with a drinking trough are great for walks and journeys.

When out and about, keep an eye on the temperature as hot tarmac can burn your dog’s paws. We sell a special paw wax that protects pads against heat, grit and antifreeze in the winter, along with preventing slips on laminate and tiles around the home. Always rinse paws after walking with cooled boiled water, never salty as pets will lick off the salt.

When holidays are looming and your four-legged friend simply won’t fit into your suitcase, give them an adventure of their own with a stay at Pule Hill Lodge.

While you’re relaxing on the beach or discovering new destinations, your dog will be receiving the best five-paw treatment too thanks to new owner Michelle who has recently taken over the kennels. With a love of animals and five dogs of her own, Michelle had been looking to purchase pet accommodation for years but never found somewhere she’d have been happy to leave her own dogs. Surrounded by endless rural scenery, she was instantly drawn to the peaceful and calming setting at Pule Hill Lodge. Since taking over, Michelle has injected new life into the site; the

OLD FLATTS FARM PET CREMATORIUM

PETS

stable block has been converted into extra accommodation suites with a big family room for dogs from the same home who want to remain settled together.

An old barn is currently being transformed into an indoor play area, great for daily exercise when the great British weather strikes. There are also dog-proofed lush green paddocks for individual daily walks, with shorter, leisurely routes for senior guests and longer walks for energetic balls of fur. As an experienced and fully qualified dog behaviour and training specialist, you can rest assured your dog will be in safe hands with Michelle and the familiar faces of Emma and Stacey throughout their stay. Every guest is treated like one of the family and they’ll simply want to pack their bags and return again next year.
