HIGH STREET The Independent

Bursting with a host of independent retailers that all offer something unique, Rotherham’s historic High Street is set for a new lease of life this year as it sees a couple of old friends join the ranks.

Creating a new hub for all things Rotherham, the popular retail venue, The Makers Emporium, will be making room for two very special residents as Rotherham Visitor Centre and the Civic Theatre Box Office make Number 26 their new home this May. Sitting alongside the current range of handmade goodies that have been lovingly crafted by local makers, the new partnership sees all involved working together in harmony.

While you book seats for your favourite show at Rotherham Theatres, you’ll be able to pick up leaflets and information about our local attractions from the Visitor Centre team while browsing the wide

range of handcrafted gifts available in store. And the changes don’t just stop at number 26. The High Street has seen a number of new businesses move from other premises across the town during recent months, adding to the array of independent shops already there.

Known for their wide selection of quality wools at fantastic prices, you can still get all of your crocheting and knitting supplies from Yarn Crazy. Or if tea and cake is more your thing, stop off for Afternoon Tea or a bite to eat at the vintage style Tea on the Terrace just over the road. All of your favourite retailers keep flying the flag for Rotherham and continue to stand the test of time.

For men’s clothing, Caprice is the number one name in Rotherham and has been a long-standing family business in the town for over 35 years, moving onto High Street in the late 90s to bring a wide range of casual and formal menswear for little lads and burly blokes of all shapes and sizes. Hambys is another memorable name in

Rotherham having been in the town for over 25 years. Their two shops on either side of the High Street offer quality shoes and accessories, plus a range of antiques and an upstairs museum in the old Three Cranes building – the oldest in Rotherham.

And celebrating 21 years of business, Craft Corner and the Bears Den light up the High Street with their range of adorable and collectable cuddly friends from Steiff to Me to You, alongside a range of craft supplies and classes run by Dawn. Craft Corner and Tea on the Terrace have also recently teamed up to offer children’s Crafty Tea Parties with one hour of crafts tailored to your child’s age and preferences followed by party food at the tea rooms.

After all of that shopping, don’t forget to sit and enjoy a taste of the Med at the charming Italian deli, Miele Delicatessen. Savour coffee as it should be, share an expansive platter filled with your favourite antipasti delights, or even grab hams, cheeses and pastas to take home.
