Uniting communities together through football

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of National Refugee Week this June, the community development teams from our two local football clubs are hosting special inclusion tournaments to bring South Yorkshire communities together.

Barnsley FC’s Reds in the Community and Rotherham United Community Sports Trust will be working with the Refugee Council to celebrate cohesion within communities, uniting people from all walks of life who wouldn’t necessarily meet in a day-to-day basis through a shared love of sport.

South Yorkshire Police are also getting involved in the events, helping to break down barriers between the police and communities and highlight that they are just regular people who love the golden game, too.

The events are open to anyone over 16 and both Barnsley and Rotherham are hoping for teams from all backgrounds to get involved. Last year, the Rotherham tournament was a real success and was won by the British Red Cross refugee and asylum seekers team.
