Welcome Dear Residents:
In your hands, you’re holding the first step down a very important path. You’re holding an idea book. A manifesto for change. A call to action. You are holding the key to better health, more socialization and ways to enrich the quality of your life. It doesn’t matter what age you are—the Park District has something for everyone.
I have heard some people say, “My kids are grown up, we don’t use the Park District anymore.” I ask you to consider these possibilities. Do you take your dog to the Bark Park? Do you take your grandchildren to the playground? Do you attend the Windmill City Festival? All of these activities are connected to the Park District. With this brochure, you’re also holding a highlight of the results to our Community Needs Assessment.
What better way to learn the community’s wants and needs than to ask YOU? The Park District would like to get people recreating, having fun, socializing, exercising, learning and gaining new experiences in our parks and facilities. If you want more details, the full results of the assessment are posted on our website at
bataviaparks.org. An executive summary will be found in the upcoming Annual Report which will be mailed to residents in May. Thank you to those who participated in the assessment! You are helping us create a new vision for parks and recreation in Batavia.
Another Park District initiative is to be a leader in the green movement. Therefore, our staff has formed a Green Committee to focus on environmental best practices and finding solutions to sustainability challenges. You will see an increased focus on the purchase of environmentally friendly products when it comes to replacing our playgrounds and amenities within our facilities. In a move towards sustainability, the Park District recently built a greenhouse in our Maintenance Shop and saved $7,000 in plant purchases by growing flowers from seeds. Along with other locations, these beautiful plants will greet patrons at the south entrance of Hall Quarry Beach. Look for them on your next visit to the beach that Batavia built!
Hope to see you this summer! All the best,
Allison Niemela, CPRP Executive Director
