For the love of
dance Saturday, March 31, 2018 — THE MEDICINE HAT NEWS MEDICINE HAT NEWS
Isabelle Lacasse loves to dance, but the busy 9-year-old also enjoys participating in other activities throughout the year. Not interested in committing to a competitive dance schedule, the hip-hop class at the Medicine Hat College Conservatory gave her the opportunity to try something new.
Recreational dance programming with the Conservatory offers a variety of options for dancers of all ages and abilities.
From hip-hop and modern movement to more fitness- oriented classes like yoga relax, the conservatory is a place where everyone can explore dance and stay active.
“The program at the conservatory is unique because the classes focus on students developing proper foundation and technique without the pressure of competition or shows," explains hip hop/house instructor Charity Goring, who brings a wealth of international experience and positive energy to the program. "It is more recreational, but students still have the opportunity to build the skills they need if they want to pursue dance at a more competitive and professional level,”
“I love that it is a fun atmosphere focused on the students where we can see them excel at their own pace.”
With three shorter sessions available and no extra fees for competitions and costumes, the flexibility and affordability of the program have been well received by students and parents alike.
Not just for kids, adults also have an opportunity to discover dance in a relaxed environment with no prior experience necessary.
Adult classes explore basic elements like balance, rhythm and strength, incorporate fitness components like yoga and Pilates, or focus on particular styles like hip-hop and modern.
