Covering the customer base with dedicated service, knowledge and a smile MEDICINE HAT NEWS
There’s no understating the value of dedicated service, and few know that better than three-time Best of Medicine Hat champion City Auto Parts.
City Auto Parts has been part of the Gas City since 1987, but their approach to customer service saw a shift when Don Edelman took over the company in 2013. In the five years since, City Auto Parts has been bringing quality products to automotive professionals and enthusiasts with a positive attitude — and the people of Medicine Hat have taken notice.
“It’s just being happy and smiling,” Edelmann said of his company’s take on customer service. “When someone answers the phone we try and smile. People on the
other end can usually tell what’s going on, if you’re smiling or if you’re not smiling. They can tell when you have a bad day or a good day, but I think in most cases we usually have pretty good days. We have good support for each other.”
Edelmann added City Auto Parts has slightly altered its business model since 2013 by offering their services to walk-ins from the public as opposed to strictly working with other automotive businesses.
From your everyday driver to competitive motorsports participants, City Auto Parts has their customer base covered.
“We cater to the shops and we deal with a lot of walk-in customers as well. It’s a mixture, whereas before it was
mostly shops,” he said.
City Auto Parts is operated by a small team of 10 employees — including three journeymen partsmen and three apprentices — and every single one of them has a history in automobiles, motor spots or both.
Edelmann, who has been working in Medicine Hat’s automotive field for the past 25 years, says automotive work is more than a job for his employees, many of whom work with vehicles or compete in motorsports in their free time.
“We’re all involved in vehicles in some way, shape or form,” he said. “It’s just not a job to them. What I got told was that high performance and being a teacher is the best way to learn the trade.”
