Getting into tennis?

– made an immeasurable impact on the standing of British tennis. According to the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) more the 131,000 people played in June 2017 compared to the same month the previous year. “At a time when more and more people


are enjoying the resurgence of British tennis, it’s great to see that translating into more people actually getting out there and having fun on court,” said Alastair Marks, Participation Director at the LTA, which has also invested in Transforming British Tennis Together – a £250 million scheme aimed at increasing participation at grassroots level. Steve Jarrett of the Jarrett Tennis School has teamed-up with fellow coach Rosemary Snook to help St John’s Tennis Club in Tunbridge Wells increase its membership and expand the coaching programme. “Tennis is a sport for all ages and abilities,” says Steve. “It helps develop coordination, speed, agility and social skills along with being something that can be played for fun or competitively. And St John’s really is a super friendly environment to enjoy the sport.”


And, as Rosemary Snook explains, there


are several initiatives on offer to encourage the next generation to pick up a racket. “We’ll be hosting Fun Fridays for four to 18-year-olds which are also open to non- members and there’ll be reduced junior membership rates as well as free taster sessions. We’ll be supporting the LTA’s Tennis for Kids initiative with schools and, with the annual Great British Tennis Weekend coming up next month, this
