014 APRIL NEWS

Award-winning children’s cancer charity Supershoes is to have an artisan garden at RHS Chelsea this year, aptly named Laced with Hope. Designed by Kent-based Laura Anstiss, the garden gives an insight into the emotions felt by a child diagnosed with cancer, taking their own steps on the challenging journey through treatment. The message is very much one of thoughts, wishes and hope intertwined with the mix of emotions that the child, together with their family, go through at such a time. The use of sculpture, shapes, texture and colours in

HOPE

the garden is a beautiful representation of how the charity itself uses artwork to uplift a child who has been diagnosed with cancer and a tribute to the time and talent that more than 300 volunteer artists give to this cause every single time they sit down to design and paint customised shoes for individual children, unique to each child. Designer Laura, who has also displayed her considerable creative talents working alongside Alan Titchmarsh and the team on ITV’s Love Your Garden, said: “I have always aspired to design a garden at RHS Chelsea, the world’s greatest flower show, and Supershoes’ inspiring mission to empower children battling this terrible disease is both incredibly important and touching. My aim is to bring beauty, strength and fun together in the design of the garden and to send the compelling message that children need to hold onto their identity and express themselves, especially when they’re going through the biggest challenge of their young lives.” • For more information, visit www.supershoes.org.uk

CHARITY OF THE MONTH Tandridge Voluntary Action

Tandridge Voluntary Action has launched their new website – www.tva.org.uk – which provides information and services to support local charities and communities, and incorporates a new online platform, Volunteer Plus, which enables potential volunteers to find suitable volunteering opportunities quickly and easily. Anyone considering volunteering can

visit the TVA website and simply enter the type of work they are interested in, together with a radius in which they would be prepared to travel. They will also be able to find information on the volunteering roles

which fit their criteria. If any opportunities appeal, potential volunteers can then contact the TVA Volunteer Centre. Voluntary organisations can also register their volunteering vacancies. Peter Damesick, TVA Chairman,

said: “We are really pleased to extend our support for local charities and communities with the new Tandridge Voluntary Action website. “For anyone wanting to find a volunteering opportunity, or for organisations with volunteering vacancies, this will now be an easy process on our

website, adding to the existing service from our volunteer centres. We are very grateful for the funding from the Community Foundation for Surrey which has made this possible.” • Visit www.tva.org.uk to see if there is a voluntary role to suit you.
