The town enjoyed a visit during Jubilee Year (1977) by Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, and Diana Princess of Wales opened the Royal Victoria Place shopping centre. • On 15th July 2013 the Princess of Wales’ Royal Regiment were given the Freedom of the Borough, while the year previously in 2012, the Duke and Duchess of Wessex toured The Pantiles area, from bandstand to well.
