Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust

MOORLAND ponies are an integral part of the Dartmoor landscape. In addition to drawing in visitors, they play a vital role in grazing the moor and maintaining its character. Based at its Information and Education Centre

at Parke Estate on the Haytor Road, the Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust (charity no 1109196) works with Dartmoor pony keepers to try to ensure the viability and the long-term survival of the traditional Dartmoor pony in its natural environment.

‘PONIES INSPIRING PEOPLE’ – OPENING MINDS AND HEALING HEARTS The Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust (DPHT) has built a strong reputation for its education programmes using Dartmoor ponies as the ‘platform for learning’ for young people with a range of life challenges, from both mainstream and special schools. We create opportunities for youngsters to meet their full potential and gain social and emotional skills to enable them to participate more effectively in everyday life - and potentially to move into employment.

PART OF THE COMMUNITY We offer a broad range of opportunities for volunteers of all ages – and all are rewarding and fun! Full training provided; join us to help with our open days, promotion, pony care, land maintenance, educational courses and conservation work at Parke and our moorland site at Bellever, Postbridge.

FREE GUIDED WALKS At Bellever – a great half day exploration of Dartmoor history, archaeology, flora, fauna and ponies – of course! For groups of 6 persons or more, all ages and abilities.

OPEN DAYS FOR EVERYONE For our friends and supporters to learn more about the ponies on Dartmoor and the challenges they face

EVENTS We join in local events in Bovey and Parke and run a number of our own during the year. We have a fantastic venue with our barn and paddocks, and are always open to ideas for events to benefit the community and the Trust.

Above, DPHT Patron, Judi Spiers meets Charlie.

SHOWCASE FOR THE DARTMOOR PONY Our ponies run in the DPHT paddocks, we take Dartmoor ponies for 'taming' and our own resident herd is full of pony characters! Adopt a pony; fundraise; or make DPHT the ‘Charity of the Year’ for your school or business.
