Bovey Tracey

THE Horticultural Society has a long history in Bovey Tracey, however, our members wished to modernise the image of the society and were concerned that the name suggested a rather formal organisation and a level of expertise which few members would claim. In November 2017 the membership therefore

approved a change of name, from Bovey Tracey Horticultural Society to Bovey Tracey Garden Club. The club welcomes all gardeners, and would-be gardeners, whatever their level of expertise. The club members are enthusiastic gardeners

from Bovey and neighbouring areas, who meet to enjoy talks on gardening topics on the second Tuesday of the month from October until June. Meetings are held in the Methodist Church Hall, Le Molay Littry Way, Bovey Tracey, TQ13 9AB, at 7.30pm. Visitors are welcome, and details of meetings can be found on the club website (www.bovey-gardeners.org.uk) and in the days before a meeting on

Garden Club (formerly Bovey Tracey Horticultural Society)

our Facebook page (Bovey Gardeners-BTHS). The club hosts two annual shows. The Spring

Flower Show is held in the Methodist Church Hall on a Saturday morning in early April and while floral entries are restricted to club members, the public is welcome to view the exhibits and enjoy morning coffee. There is no entry charge. The main event of the club year, however, is

an open entry Summer Show on the third Saturday in August which is held in Parke View Meadow, Fore Street. The show is a feature of the Bovey summer dating back more than 150 years. It is a traditional horticultural show, but with lots of extras. The 2018 events will be held on Saturday,

April 7, open to the public at 10.30am, and Saturday, August 18 commencing at 1.30pm. Excursions are organised to horticultural

events during the year, and several of our members open their gardens for fellow members to visit. A number of our members have gardens of sufficient beauty to be part of the National Garden Scheme. The membership subscription of just £10

provides entry to club meetings and a quarterly newsletter. For further details, please contact the

chairman, Julia Mooney, on 01626 830332 or check out the club website.
