YOUNG COMMUNITY PHARMACIST OF THE YEAR

WINNER: KURTIS MOFFATT

Kurtis Moffatt, Locum Pharmacist and Paul Murray, PCM Associates

l

ocum community pharmacist Kurtis Moffatt was the worthy winner of the young community Pharmacist of the year award.

despite his young age, the judges were very impressed by the fact that, over the past eight years, Kurtis has operated in a wide range of pharmacy-related roles.

Initially, Kurtis worked as a pharmacist for three years, delivering an enthusiastic and approachable service to both patients and teams on a daily basis. his previous experience on a pharmacy management team allowed him to develop leadership skills in training others, and refined his ability to delegate tasks and tailor his teaching style to different personalities and situations.

Kurtis is currently a Phd student at Queen’s University in Belfast, specialising in Pharmaceutical

Science. he believes that being elected as the first- year representative within the School of Pharmacy postgraduate committee for Phd students has developed his skills even further in communicating issues – both personal and professional – in an effective manner between students and staff alike. additionally, working as a peer mentor within the Phd programme allows him to develop consultation skills one on one with his allocated students: skills, which are then transferrable to community pharmacy with patients.

despite working as a locum pharmacist – and not based in one location – he always takes the opportunity to help either dispensing staff or patients with the knowledge that he has gained over the years.

Kurtis Moffatt ‘I’m totally blown away by receiving this award. Pharmacy can be a very lonely profession and, very often, the pharmacist is really working on their own for much of the time, so the awards are a great opportunity to meet up with other pharmacists to discuss experiences. It makes you feel part of the pharmacy 'community'.'

Paul Murray, PCM Associates ‘as a company, we like to be seen as an organisation that supports community pharmacy. We’ve been supporting events like this for over ten years and it’s great to see someone like Kurtis being recognised for the work that the profession is doing.’
