Active Adults Batavia RSVP Medical Assistance Program

BATAVIA Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)

Monday – Friday: 9:30 – 11:30 am 630-406-9993

The Batavia RSVP office is staffed with friendly volunteers, Monday through Friday from 9:30 am to 11:30 am. The RSVP office is located on the main level of the Batavia Park District Civic Center, 630-406-9993. RSVP is an intergenerational volunteer program that serves Batavians by identifying the needs of individuals within the community and then coordinating a volunteer response to those needs. Currently over 100 individuals are serving as volunteers helping to improve the quality of life for Batavia senior citizens 65 or older.

RSVP services include:

• Transportation for homebound seniors for doctor visits and other essential trips.

• Information on how to apply for property tax relief programs.

• Performing an information and referral service for seniors helping them with questions about services and programs that are available to them.

• Installation and maintenance of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in seniors’ homes at no cost.

• Helping eligible seniors with prescription drug costs.

• Installation of lock boxes on seniors’ homes at no cost.

Suggestions for additional services will be welcomed and can be made either in person or by telephone to the Batavia RSVP office. Individuals willing to serve as volunteers are also encouraged to contact the office even if their abilities and interests are different from the services currently provided. The RSVP telephone number is 630-406-9993.

This program provides credits to be used for prescription drugs. The credits are awarded on the basis of need, with consideration given to the applicant’s income and un-reimbursed payments for prescription drugs. Applicants must be at least 65 years old and live in the City of Batavia, Batavia Township, or the Batavia Park District to be eligible. An applicant can qualify for this program with an income of up to $30,000. If the applicant has a spouse or lives with one qualified additional resident the income limit increases to $40,000 and to $50,000 if two additional qualified residents live with the applicant. Application forms may be obtained by calling the RSVP office at 630-406-9993.

RSVP Carbon Monoxide & Smoke Detector Program

Free smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors are available to Batavia senior citizens 65 years or older. There is no charge for the detectors or the installation. Older residents can also have batteries replaced in already-installed devices in their homes or apartments. The Batavia Fire Department and RSVP jointly sponsor the program. It hopes to help older citizens conform to the Illinois law, enacted in 1987 and 2007, which requires that “every dwelling unit shall be equipped with at least one approved smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector in an operating condition within 15 feet of every room used for sleeping purposes.” Call the Batavia RSVP office at 630-406-9993, weekdays between 9:30 – 11:30 am.

RSVP Lock Boxes – FREE!

Batavia RSVP provides and installs lock boxes for the outside of qualified senior citizens’ homes. The lock boxes contain a house key for the residence to which they are attached. Each responding Fire Department vehicle has a master key for the lock boxes. This will allow emergency access to the home if needed. To be eligible the person should be 65 or older and a resident of Batavia, Batavia Township or the Batavia Park District. There is no charge for the lock box or the installation. However, because the lock box is expensive, we ask for donations from those who are able to help defray the cost. This is done in cooperation with the Batavia Fire Department. Interested persons should call the Batavia RSVP office,630-406-9993, weekdays between 9:30 and 11:30 am.
