For a second consecutive year, the Batavia Park District was recognized as one of the Chicagoland area’s “Top Workplaces” by the Chicago Tribune in its special edition issue. The Batavia Park District was named #12 out of 125 recognized organizations, moving up the ranks from #38 last year. The Batavia Park District was only one of three municipalities to make the list. The purpose of the Top Workplace award is to recognize organizations that are making a real difference in the lives of their employees. More than 8,000 businesses were nominated and employee engagement surveys were sent to employees of each company (including seasonal, part-time and full-time staff at the District). The survey was conducted by Energage and measured key qualities, including company leadership, communication, career opportunities, working environment, managerial skills, pay, and benefits. Residents can rest assured the employees who work at the Park District are dedicated, committed to personal and professional growth, and have a genuine passion and desire to serve our community.


Thank you to everyone who participated in the focus groups and the community needs assessment between September 30 through November 6, 2017. Postcards were mailed to every


household within the Park District boundaries by the firm aQity Research & Insights, Inc. A web portal was provided for online responses. A total of 761 households participated in the survey. As a result, it is clear the Park District is recreation programming rich and facility poor. Another area of focus will be more programming along the Fox River. The results of the community needs assessment are scheduled to be presented to Park District staff at the February 2018 Park Board Meeting. For the sake of transparency, the results of the assessment will be posted on our website at bataviaparks.org in late spring. The needs assessment is just the beginning of the strategic master planning process. This year, the Park District will hire a firm to assist with the development of a clear vision for the future of parks and recreation in Batavia.


The Park District is in a time of growth with the community needs assessment fresh off the press and the development of a new strategic master plan. Playing off this year’s theme for growth, we are giving away Shasta Daisy seed packets for you to plant as you please. The Park Board Your Park Board is composed of five non-paid commissioners selected by you to serve varying terms. The Board is primarily a policy-making body that reflects the needs and interests of all taxpayers.


The Park Board meets the 3rd Tuesday of each month at the Civic Center, 327 W. Wilson St, at 7:00 pm.
