POOL FOCUS A triumphant Parkwood Leisure team retained its title of Leisure Operator Of The Year. Managing 44 local authority pool and water based sites in England and Wales, staff training is a continual focus for Parkwood.


One of the most experienced water leisure operators in the


UK, Parkwood has a particularly dynamic approach to career development with managers actively encouraging employees to progress to the next level within the company. A standout element of Parkwood’s operations is its successful customer care policy which ensures the customer is central to our operations. Customer feedback is captured through a variety of channels including questionnaires, meet the manager sessions and centre user forums with findings analysed locally and centrally. Trends and issues are then resolved as part of our continuous improvement approach. Each year Parkwood Leisure supports a nominated charity through a wide range of fundraising activities undertaken by staff based at our leisure centres and our head office in Worcester. Parkwood Leisure’s nominated charity for 2017 was the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust and to date almost £31,500 has been raised through numerous fundraising activities.

A neck and neck contest, which left judges unable to separate two short-listed entries, resulted in the pair sharing the coveted 2017 title of Holiday Park Pool Of The Year. Devon’s Lady’s Mile Holiday Park did not just shine for its investment in water leisure facilities. The Park’s outstanding team of lifeguards drew unanimous applause from the judges following the dramatic rescue of a young girl in distress in the outdoor pool. She was lifted from the water, and the team carried out CPR

and saved the young girl’s life. The team acted professionally and responded to the incident with great care and compassion. Their efforts have been recognised by the Royal Lifesaving Society for outstanding bravery with a certificate of merit. Meanwhile, part of the Bourne Leisure group, Haven Holiday’s Hafan y Môr Holiday Park, in North Wales, were named as co-title holders following an outstanding £3m refurbishment earlier this year. The upgrade featured an impressive makeover including the addition of three flume slides, play areas for young children, a multi- lane slide, bubble pool, Lazy River and wave pool, plus a lane pool for those wanting to just swim.

Wet ‘n Wild was a runaway winner of the title, Water Leisure Venue Of The Year.


Fun for all ages, the venue offers ten exciting ‘thrill’ rides, a lazy river which takes swimmers outside, a Discovery Island play area for little ones, a wave pool and bubble pools. Run by Serco Leisure Operating, Wet n Wild’s weekly Wave Rave Disco, parent and toddler sessions and casual swimming sessions help make it the most popular waterpark in the North East. Facility Manager Kevin Nolan was singled out for praise for helping make a massive success of the waterpark which under different ownership had gone into administration. Kevin has turned the venue
