Red Carpet Treatment
The UK Pool & Spa Awards hits new record heights… ABOVE: Now in its eighth year, the UK Pool & Spa Awards gives water leisure companies a valuable marketing boost.
Some of the biggest names in water leisure walked the red carpet at the recent annual UK Pool & Spa Awards. The equivalent of the pool industry Oscars, more than 100 companies entered the recent UK Pool & Spa Awards setting a new competition record of nearly 250 entries. Big winners included Portrait Pools & Enclosures, Aqua Platinum
Projects, Falcon Pools, H20 Cannings and Buckingham Pools, to name just a few.
All entries into the contest underwent a three-tier judging process with on-line voting from the public smashing through the 1,500 votes mark. Points were also awarded by specialist judges and the combined results were then presented to a panel for final adjudication.
MARKETING BOOST “We understand the enormous marketing boost to winning companies in the UK Pool & Spa Awards,” said Christina Connor on behalf of Waterland Media, the competition organisers. “That is why the aim of the contest is to acknowledge the outstanding work of as many companies as possible.
“This not only gives them an opportunity to promote their own business but also, collectively, the water leisure industry as a whole.” Now in its eighth year, some categories were so well supported that the organisers split them into smaller groups – again creating even more winners.
The awards presentation evening returned, by popular demand,
to The Vox conference centre within Resorts World at Birmingham’s NEC on Monday December 4th. The evening began with a business networking drinks reception, sponsored by water treatment specialists, Lonza UK.

ABOVE: An outstanding project at Bristol for Harbour Hotels set H20 Cannings on a winning path jointly winning Commercial Pool Project Of The Year.
Businesswoman and broadcaster Michelle Dewberry toured the pre- dinner networking area, chatting to the many sponsors and guests, as the VIP guest at this year’s event. Michelle, the winner of the second series of The Apprentice, was then photographed with the winning companies. Two outstanding projects shared the category-winning top position and the title of Commercial Pool Project Of The Year.
BASEMENT VAULT
The winning H20 Cannings project involved a pool installation in the basement vault of a listed building that was a former bank in Bristol City Centre. The deck-level boutique swimming pool, complete with counter current device, associated plant and bench seating sauna with hidden heater and associated essence systems and tiled steam room for the Harbour Hotel site.
The judges agreed the final look is stunning with the low-vaulted
ceilings, mood lighting, soft furnishings and high gloss finish tiling throughout give a very intimate feel whilst allowing guests to forget that they are far underground. The Portrait Pools’ entry featured an 11.5 x 6 x 1.35 constant water depth commercial pool on a luxury holiday cottage complex.
