PHARMACY HERO

The Pharmacy Hero award, which is sponsored by GSK Consumer Healthcare, is designed to recognise an individual who has gone that ‘extra mile’ to provide an enhanced community pharmacy service: someone, who has gone beyond the ‘call of duty’ to meet the challenges faced by healthcare in Northern Ireland today.

Take the example of last year’s winner, Noelle Holmes. When Newry chef Aaron McDonald went into anaphylactic shock in a local restaurant last year, it was the quick thinking of pharmacist Noelle that saved his life.

As with last year’s award, we’re again looking for nominations across the board – right from quick, ad hoc thinking, to evidence of more long-term outstanding commitment and dedication to the profession.

Needless to say, award sponsors, GSK Consumer Healthcare, are delighted with the calibre of this year's nominations - but not surprised, given the level of respect in which the province's pharmacy profession is held.

‘The community pharmacist is increasingly viewed as the first port of call for local healthcare,’ said Stuart Hutchison, Northern Ireland Business Manager at GSK Consumer Healthcare, ‘and we have been delighted to hear about the fantastic examples of pharmacists – or members of their teams – who have gone that extra mile in providing first-class care to their patients.’

OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO PHARMACY

The Outstanding Contribution to Pharmacy not only highlights the ever-increasing contribution that pharmacists make to the wider healthcare profession in Northern Ireland, but is also aimed at recognising role models, who both inspire and motivate others.

As such, this accolade is designed to showcase the achievements of an individual who has had a sustained career in which they have not only made a very significant contribution to the pharmacy sector, but have also provided inspiration to colleagues and peers.

As such, the winning nomination will provide a comprehensive record of leadership, determination and practical proof of achievement, and award sponsors, EMIS Health, are looking forward to high-quality, sterling nominations.

‘At EMIS Health we are passionate about assisting you in improving patient outcomes,’ said Grant Kobrin, Sales Manager, Community Pharmacy, at EMIS Health. ‘The fourth generation of our community pharmacy system ProScript Connect is the UK's leading pharmacy software system, supporting our customer to ensure patients receive their medicines they need safely and cost effectively.

'Thanks to the quality and depth of the pharmacy profession in Northern Ireland, the panel had many worthy candidates for this award, but, unfortunately, there can only be one winner and I certainly do not envy the panel in having to make that decision. I wish all nominees in the awards the very best of luck.’
