YOUNG COMMUNITY PHARMACIST OF THE YEAR FINALISTS

Michelle Laverty Burns Pharmacy, Holywood

Michelle has greatly enhanced efficiencies at Burns Pharmacy through the installation of IT structures and staff training. Michelle's enthusiasm for the promotion of pharmacy services such as MURs and smoking cessation has also led to greater staff and patient satisfaction in the high quality service which the pharmacy provides. Through the delivery of community talks and by highlighting the ‘personal touch’, Michelle has been instrumental in increasing the pharmacy footfall and, as such, she has been integral in the year-on-year growth of the business.

Andrew Cheung Harrison Healthcare, Belfast

As the pharmacist at Harrison Healthcare, Andrew has been caring for the local people of Donegall Pass in South Belfast for almost three years. Being fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin, Andrew always shows great enthusiasm, especially when it comes to patient counselling. His welcoming, friendly and charismatic nature has won the confidence and trust of the locals and his strong communication and inspiring leadership skills have made him a true asset to the pharmacy team. His exceptional skills as a pharmacist are surpassed only by the high level of care and attention he provides for every patient or customer.

Kurtis Moffatt Locum pharmacist, Belfast

Working as a locum pharmacist can be difficult since you can be viewed as ‘external’, but Kurtis always makes the utmost effort when placed in any community situation to tailor his practice to the store in which he is working; particularly in terms of getting the most out of his staff and in providing the best service for patients. This involves driving services such as MURs for asthma/ COPD or diabetes and also health promotion opportunities. Kurtis believes this ultimately raises the profile of the community pharmacist as a healthcare provider.
