Bannside Pharmacy Portglenone
Bannside Pharmacy has been in business for almost 60 years and has certainly ‘moved with the times’. The pharmacy now specialises in complementary treatments and medicines, with visiting therapists offering acupuncture, kinesiology, reflexology and massage and the OTC range incorporating natural medicines, supplements and treatments. Bannside is also heavily involved in community projects, which are all designed to educate patients about self management and wellbeing. The pharmacy was also one of the first in the province to achieve Health+ accreditation.

Prison Healthcare Pharmacy HMP Maghaberry
In May 2013, the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust (SET) opened the Prison Healthcare Pharmacy located at HMP Maghaberry to provide dispensing services to all three Northern Ireland Prison Service establishments; HMP Maghaberry, HMP Magilligan and HMP Hydebank Wood. The range of pharmaceutical services provided by Prison Healthcare Pharmacy developed significantly over the following four years from the initial ‘dispensing only’ model. Since then, the team has introduced many of the pharmaceutical services familiar in community pharmacy, such as Medicine Use Review clinics, smoking cessation clinics and a Minor Ailments Service.
Strangford Pharmacy Strangford
Up until 2005, patients in the village had to make an 18-mile round trip to Downpatrick to pick up a prescription from the surgery. Since then Strangford Pharmacy has created a ‘hub’ for the local community, providing a central point for healthcare. Strangford Pharmacy now operates a six-day-a-week service, providing a comprehensive prescription collection/delivery service for all surgeries in Downpatrick and the large rural area surrounding the village. The fact that the team all know their patients well means that the pharmacy is the embodiment of the vision Shane had of the community ‘hub’.
