PHARMACIST OF THE YEAR FINALISTS
Katharine McGilligan McGlaughlins Pharmacy, Magherafelt
Now in her eleventh year at McGlaughlins Pharmacy, Katharine has worked her way up from pre-reg pharmacist to Pharmacy Manager and embodies the diversity of the role of the community pharmacist. Throughout her time at the pharmacy, Katharine has sought to ‘champion’ various issues in the local area, all with the aim of showing the local community the strength of their community pharmacy and the services that it can provide.
Ryan Graham Bannside Pharmacy, Portglenone
Ryan is a key player in Bannside Pharmacy’s specialist areas of public health, complementary medicines and supplements, and sports nutrition. He firmly believes that community pharmacists empower patients to make positive contributions to their health and wellbeing and puts this theory into practice on a daily basis. Bannside is also a training pharmacy for undergraduate pharmacy students from both NI universities and Ryan takes the lead role in this.
Anna McLaughlin Thorntons Medicare, Newcastle
Anna has worked in community pharmacy for fifteen years and has a successful track record of delivering patient-focused services, which improve the health and wellbeing of the local community. She constantly promotes the open-door aspect of pharmacy and has formed links with all local health-related groups including Age Concern, Arthritis Care and women’s groups. She also works one day a week in the local GP surgery, training reception staff on the minor ailment service.
Ruth Kelly Boots, Dromara
Ruth, who has been pharmacy manager for over seven years, is passionate about providing exemplary customer care. She established, for example, a service whereby patients can receive a text to tell them that their medication is ready for collection. Ruth also set up a new training plan for every colleague in the pharmacy team to re-skill and up-skill as appropriate, and used a buddy system to support those undergoing training to increase their confidence.
