Problems Ahead?

I have read with interest, the observations compiled by you correspondent Judy Whiteside regarding the Strawberry How development and its enumerated discrepancies.

In the first instance, there is no such thing as a Blue Corridor in nature, as nature knows no boundaries and cannot be controlled by man. Mankind is controlled by nature, an indisputable fact despite the Environmental Agency assertions to the contrary.

If the Environment Agency were a competent establishment is the execution of its statutory duties, including its duty of care to the public at large, Strawberry Grange would not be the contentious issue it is, in and around Cockermouth.

Armchair academics within the hierarchy of the Environment Agency, are responsible for the desecration of large areas of Cumbria and should resign, or be relieved of the statutory positions due to shear incompetence and dereliction of duty in a public office.

If forward thinking and pragmatic views had been taking regarding the Strawberry How development, we in Cockermouth would not have to be subjected to the aftermath of the unadulterated drivel and misprisions caused by the Environment Agency all in the public domain.

The Environment Agency has seriously misled the residents of Cockermouth regarding the run-off from Tom Rudd Beck and its catchment areas as compiled by Judy Whitehead and addressed in her correspondence an unforgivable act perpetrated to cover up its incompetence.

As a building and civil engineer, with years of experience on this subject matter, I personally would not trust a word the Environment Agency says of any actions it proposes. This is also the attitude of many Cumbrians who have suffered at the hands of a long-discredited establishment.

In conclusion, like many other residents in this area, I am too old a cat to be taught how to catch mice by kittens in the establishments creche. No establishment can demand respect but only command respect through probity, seriously lacking in this instance.

Carson Straughton Ex Building and Civil Engineer
