The Keswick Film Club spring season, which begins on 7th January, features a number of films with the ‘F’ rating. This relatively new categorisation recognises the significant role of women in the film, both in front of and behind the camera.

The strong female lead performances in our films next season, will be an undoubted highlight. In Between (21st January) and My Pure Land (11th March), set in Palestine and Pakistan respectively, both challenge the traditional female role in those societies.
The Director of In Between Maysaloun Hamoud actually received death threats after she portrayed three young, free-thinking and very 21st century women making their way in Palestinian society. French icon Isabelle Huppert, who takes her accustomed lead in Happy End (28th January) selected Hamoud for an award at Cannes declaring that ‘the free spirited and joyful women [Hamoud]
The Club has recently completed its second year having been founded in October 2015.
As members of the Association of British Philatelic Societies, the Club were recently invited to visit Dumfries Stamp Club, where four members gave displays of San Marino, Zeppelin envelopes, Gambia and Cumbrian
The season’s opener, Marjorie Prime, shows a lady towards the evening of her years. Gradually losing her memory, her family try to help by hiring a hologram/AI robot that is programmed to be (and looks) just like her dead husband Walter did in his forties. This gentle comedy explores the truths behind what we think we remember.
Félicité and Thelma in February continue the theme of powerful performances by leading actresses before Keswick Film Festival takes up the mantle on 22nd February. Opening with Edie, starring the inestimable Sheila Hancock and closing with 3 Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri, with

McDormand, Keswick Film Festival will again bring the best of world cinema to Cumbria.
COCKERMOUTH STAMP CLUB
Postal History. The first meeting in 2018, will be held on Friday 26th January at 11.30am at Cockermouth Conservative Club, Main Street, when the 2018 programme will be discussed.
