~ KESWICK SCHOOL NEWS~

The importance of having ambition or a 'dream' cannot be underestimated. It gives purpose, direction, focus and motivation and is essential to success. Choosing the right Sixth Form is a critically important step for Year 11 students. Being in an ambitious, competitive and successful environment, surrounded by other likeminded students can bring out the best and help young people achieve their potential.

At Keswick School, we have spent many years creating the right Sixth Form culture and ethos to enable this to happen. This is by design and careful planning. The results speak for themselves; 20 students to Oxford and Cambridge in the last few years and almost every student moving on to their first choice university course in the UK or abroad, or being successful in gaining a higher or degree level apprenticeship.

We are often asked how do we achieve this? There's no secret - it's based on a strong partnership between staff, students and parents. In an increasingly competitive society we work on giving our students every advantage. To use another sporting analogy coined by David Brailsford (Principal of Team Sky) we look for the 'marginal gains' or the ‘1%ers’! Our aim is to develop confident, articulate and distinctive young people who stand out from the crowd.

In 2014, Ofsted rated our Sixth Form as 'outstanding'. It was also highlighted as one of just six case studies in Ofsted's annual report to the government. This stated:

“The sixth form curriculum is excellent. Sixth formers are particularly well prepared for future employment and higher education through the outstanding programme of study they are given. They take full advantage of the myriad opportunities to take responsibility and consequently make a major contribution to the success of the school”’
