CAR RIDES Summer T

he ‘Long Summer Run’ started off as it usu- ally does, somewhat slowly, then picked up

gradually throughout the holiday period. We lost just over two days to rain in what was quite a reasonable period of decent, warm weather. Our new people fitted nicely into their various

roles in the team and they really helped to ease the workload on the existing core marshal and Paddock group, even allowing people days off! However, when our team numbers were low it obviously affected the number of cars in play and consequently the number of rides that we could manage on any given day.

On the positive side, the lack of contractors on the Finishing Straight and the absence of traffic lights on site helped space the cars and cut down delays. Overall visitor numbers seemed lower this year, in what has been a time of upheaval with all the construction work.

In terms of donations, we rattled mainly

around the mid-£200 to £300s daily for the first four weeks (with the odd exception), before getting into our stride in week five. With the construction work over and the Museum fully open again, we’re looking forward to a successful end of year and 2018. On that note, we would like some more

OUTREACH M

any of you will have seen the reports in the BTM e-newsletter concerning our activities during this year but I thought I would add some ‘behind the scenes’ information. First the people involved – the whole operation

is organised by Rolie Luker with help from Debbie Crawt and myself as required. I have to say that there would not be Brooklands Outreach without these two enthusiasts. We have a nucleus of ‘Outreachers’ who attend as many events as possible – Roddy Garnett, Mike Hawes, Bob and Kelly Webb, David Brockington-Hill and Tara and many more. They and others supply all sorts of superb cars for display, from a giant 1930s Cadillac to a lovely little Fiat 500. This year we have promoted the Museum at over 20 events, some more successful than others. There have been some disappointments too which will not be on our programme for next year.
