ESTATES AND HERITAGE
Site work As reported elsewhere, the replica Scoreboard was successfully completed on schedule by the various contractors involved, assisted by Museum staff and volunteers. It was officially unveiled when the moving section was fitted with its period-style race boards and first raised to its full height by Allan Winn at the Reunion on 13th August. Since then the structure has been much admired by many and should enhance this corner of the Paddock for many years to come.
After negotiations with and a welcome financial contribution from our neighbours, new steel gates were installed by contractors on our southern boundary on 31st August. These replaced unsightly temporary ramps and fence panels and will greatly improve access to The Heights car park on major event days.
Another notable achievement is further
improvement to the ERA Shed’s exterior made by volunteer Alan Morris, who finished repainting the north west elevations on 19th September. He hopes to continue with other painting tasks over the winter and if anyone would like to join him by deploying their DIY skills they should contact our Property Manager Lee Harvey. Elsewhere around the site the Property Team has been dealing with issues such as fallen tree branches after recent gales, various blocked or compromised drains, using contractors where necessary, as well as spending significant hours supporting our catering and events teams when setting up for and clearing away after recent events, both at Brooklands and at off-site venues including Dunsfold Park. Volunteer Phil Coleman has been particularly helpful with these and many other site maintenance and tidying activities and he deserves special mention here for his invaluable support.
Also noteworthy is the regular support from volunteers Graham Webb and Tony Sweetsur with the annual testing of all portable electrical equipment used throughout the Museum, includ- ing computers, kettles and tools. In 2016 they performed these important safety checks on over 1,500 individual items!

Update
The replica Scoreboard ready for revealing to visitors on 13th August (Julian Temple).
Our almost pristine Highball during transport from Cheshire (Andy Lambert).
As reported in ‘Museum Collections’ by Abigail Wilson, we are greatly indebted to Barnes Wallis Foundation Trustee and author Dr Iain Murray for recently enabling us to achieve our long-term ambition to acquire a Highball bouncing bomb.
