nevertheless awesome Bugatti and other famous marques housed there – in well laid out and dramatic splendour – this museum is spellbind- ing and requires a morning round, lunch, then more in the afternoon to sate the palate. Over 400 immaculately prepared and displayed cars from all over the world are displayed in three main halls tracing car development from 1878 onwards – a Bugatti Royale being the centrepiece in floodlights.


How do you follow that? The museum at A fountain at Mulhouse (Roger Greenwood).


Velaine-en-Haye, near Nancy was a more mainstream collection, a beautiful Aston prototype being my particular favourite. An added bonus was the collection of cars for sale
