MUSEUM COLLECTIONS Stopwatch
Update
Harold Humphries’ telegram. F Lindsay Lloyd’s stopwatch.
We were very excited to acquire a stopwatch which was given to F Lindsay Lloyd by Hugh Locke King as a Christmas present in 1922. Lindsay Lloyd was the Clerk of the Course at Brooklands after Rodakowski. It is interesting to get a rare glimpse of the personal relationship of these two men. Our thanks go to Brian Shuttleworth.
Vickers FC shields
Brooklands. As well as a number of photographs, the donation includes several telegrams and letters wishing Humphries luck before one of his races in May 1921. It is a lovely collection highlighting a lesser known Brooklands driver.

Vickers FC shields.
We are grateful to Helen Gatehouse for the donation of two shields awarded to her uncle, Ernie Watson, for football matches played with Vickers FC. Ernie joined Vickers along with his two sisters, where he worked on the machinery in the electrical shop, and played football for the works team in his spare time. The social aspect of work at the factories is an important part of the Brooklands story and is an area of the collection that we are looking to develop.
Documents and photos relating to Harold Humphries
Our thanks go to Ruth Burke for the donation of documents and photographs relating to her fa- ther, Harold Humphries, and his racing career at
56 Gertrude Harrison, kneeling front right, in the WRAF.
During the First World War, Brooklands was used as a base for the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) and the Women’s Royal Air Force (WRAF). This is a period of Brooklands’ history that is relatively under-represented in our collection so we were very pleased to receive photos of Gertrude Louisa Harrison, who was based here with the WAAC and later the WRAF in 1918-19. Thank you to Jack Fry for this interesting donation.
