CAR RIDES

t was a dry Easter which meant we ran for the whole nine days without any interruptions by the weather. It alternated between toasty warm and freezing cold and we weren’t always in the right kit for the weather, but carried on regardless in the usual fashion. A number of vehicle breakdowns meant some

repairs had to be carried out to enable us to keep running over Easter, before we turned our attention to the usual maintenance work follow- ing the holiday. Otherwise we all came through unscathed. All in all, a pretty successful session with a wedding on the Saturday of the final week. We raised £3,284 over the nine days compared with £3,320, the previous year, but it was still a good result. Additionally, we ‘captured’ a fair proportion of the visitors, (in bald number terms) although, as we know, these are always skewed slightly by the ‘repeat riders’. We followed up the week with a 150th birthday celebration as team members Chris Ralls and John Farrant combined their 70th and 80th celebrations into one ‘do’ in the Clubhouse. With two 60ths and an 18th looming, it’s looking good

for bar takings this summer! As many of you know, we lost Richard Andrews and Colin Dalziel last year. In honour of Richard, who was a Morgan owner and loyal customer, Brands Hatch Morgan, a dealer well known to many members, very generously offered to donate the proceeds of its customer track day at Goodwood in June to the Car Rides team funds. This kind donation will be used to purchase workshop equipment which will make a number of tasks easier to undertake.

Our last Car Rides session took place in early June as this Bulletin went to press, followed by preparations for the long summer holiday run. If any of you would like to consider joining us, please make contact and we’ll explain what is involved – brooklandscrt@gmail.com
