AIRCRAFT FACTORY AND TRACK REVIVAL PROJECT

n the last Bulletin we mentioned that the installation of the south doors of the Hangar had been delayed due to the search that had to be carried out for replacement wheels and tracks. Eventually some original Bellman wheels and substitute tracks were sourced from a company called Jewers Doors in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire and these have now arrived on site. Brymor are re-mobilising their sub-contractors and the doors will be hung and clad in the next few weeks. In the meantime, electrical contractors have been installing heating and lighting circuits and the balustrade on the mezzanine has now been completed, with the remaining part, on the bridge between the Hangar and the Flight Shed, due to be installed as this Bulletin went to press. The lift from the ground floor of the Hangar to the mezzanine has been installed and will soon be commissioned. There has been much activity on the Finishing Straight as the opening, on 17th June at the Double Twelve Motorsport Festival, is approaching fast. The contractors’ huts have disappeared from the Straight and a much-reduced encampment is now outside the Acoustics Building, where it will remain until Brymor finish their contract in July. The roadway leading to the Banking has now been moved to the eastern side to allow the western side to be restored – whole new sections have been laid in the north and south transition areas where the Hangar once stood and other badly damaged areas have been patch-repaired as in period. The AVRO Shed has recently been de- constructed and will be erected in its new position at the base of the Campbell Circuit by The Heights fence over the next few weeks.
