music programs. These subjects have a unique ability to engage at-risk students and improve their overall engagement in academics, ensuring they have the essential 21st century skills to succeed not only in academics, but also in today’s workforce.

More information on ESSA for music educators can be found on the NAfME website - https://nafme.org/advocacy/essa/

It has been a long and challenging

journey that has brought us to the point where music education has a seat at the table with the other core academic subjects

on a national level. I encourage all music educators to seize this opportunity to advocate and educate the public on the importance of music education.

It is time to stop worrying about our

place in the educational community and begin celebrating our success. Music education is important, it is valid, and the law requires it. You already knew these things… now go out and make sure everyone else knows as well.

IT’S A NEW ERA IN EDUCATION

Now more than ever, your voice and expertise as a music educator is critical. NAfME is here to help you make a strong case for music education under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).

On NAfME’s “Everything ESSA” resource page (bit.ly/EverythingESSA), you can find all the toolkits you need to understand ESSA and take action to ensure implementation includes music at the state level.

At bit.ly/EverythingESSA, you can also receive recognition for professional development valued at one contact hour for watching advocacy webinars.

And in the Grassroots Action Center (bit.ly/NAfMEgrassroots), you can make your voice heard on Capitol Hill. Your Association. Your Profession. Your Voice.
