LCCC News by Beth Kean

Laramie County Community College Music Department welcomes the addition of Nick Simons as the jazz band director. Nick has been a guest clinician, conductor, adjudicator, and an instrumental music educator for 45 years in the Tri-State area. His expertise in playing and conducting jazz bands includes junior high and high school jazz, as well as leadership in the Wyoming Jazz Educators and WMEA Jazz Education Chair. In 2017, Nick was awarded the Outstanding Wyoming Jazz Educator. LCCC is pleased to have him join the staff.

LCCC is currently offering more courses for music education majors. The addition of these courses will help students transfer to four-year institutions without delay in their music education courses. In addition to Nick, LCCC also welcomes Cindy Schmid, John Meriweather, and Amy Lenell Ledwith, who will be teaching brass, percussion, woodwinds, and strings method courses. All of these methods teachers have had considerable classroom experience, and are ready to share their expertise with the students and future music educators.

The LCCC vocal ensemble, Cantorei, will be traveling to New York City this coming April. The group will be performing for top clinicians and adjudicators, Angela Broeker, Jeffrey Benson, and Eugene Rogers. The singers will also have the opportunity to listen and observe other groups from throughout the nation. Cantorei will also work with composer Jake Runestad on a newly commissioned piece. The capstone of their time in NYC will be a mass choir perfomance at Carnegie Hall under the direction of Anton Armstrong with the premier of the composition by Jake Runestad. The members of Cantorei look forward to a wonderful educational and cultural experience in New York.
