Greetings WMEA! Guest Association News

O

n July 1st I took over as president of the Wyoming Chapter of the American

Choral Directors’ Association. Wyoming is nearly 70 members strong in ACDA, and we hope to continue growing. We value new participants. We’re now in year five of our “SING-UP” membership campaign. For those of you teaching choral music in the state, ACDA has an abundance of resources ranging from on-line to hard copy journals, as well as materials and ideas freely shared one member to another.

We also gather for a state conference

each fall and a division conference in the spring every two years. Membership in ACDA offers opportunities for students as well, like the Northwest Division Honor Choirs for high school students and the Wyoming Children’s 5-8 Honor Choir held each spring. Through ACDA, everyone benefits and progresses. From young to age-seasoned, what a great way to experience and demonstrate how music can be central to a well-rounded education - for a lifetime.

Members (and prospective members!)

should soon check out the new Wyoming ACDA website being designed by Zach Vreeman. The improved site – wyomingacda.org – is not yet “live”, but we will let you know via the listserv when it is available. Meanwhile, visit ACDA’s national site found at acda.org and our Northwest Division site at nwacda.org. Lots of timely information there.

The Northwest ACDA Conference

Planning Meeting was held July 17 and 18 in Portland, Oregon - anticipating the biennial 2018 Division Conference March 7-10. The conference will feature 25 performing groups including an afternoon of jazz, 20 interest sessions, nine various reading sessions including an Earthsongs (publisher’s) reading session, and a special performance of the Verdi Requiem by the Oregon Symphony with the Portland Symphonic Choir. Headliners are Craig Hella Johnson, Susan Luinstra, and the Latvian Female Vocal Ensemble PUTNI (Birds). The conference, of course, includes performances by the five auditioned honor choirs selected from student auditions, assisted by ACDA member-teachers.

acda Larry Munari WY-ACDA President The Wyoming ACDA fall conference

is set for September 23rd at Casper College, and it will have a Children’s Choir emphasis. Clinicians and sessions to be announced . . . details to be posted on the listserv and on our website.

Plans are underway for the annual

Children’s Honor Choir event to be hosted in Cody, June 1st and 2nd. Kari Pinney is already at work masterfully crafting all the details. This has been a wonderful experience for our young singers for many years. Those students, without a doubt, have become our leaders in later years. Be watching the website and listserv for more details.

Make it a great year everyone - faithfully serving the youth entrusted to us.
