Broadstone Football Club

Our Broadstone FC page will keep you updated on the teams’ progress, upcoming events and opportunities of how you can help!

TEAM FOCUS: U11S

Bransgore Tournament: In June,

Broadstone FC U11s took part in the Bransgore Youth

tournament. We arrived to fi nd we had some

tough opposition in the form of AFC Poole, Greenfi elds and Burton. But that day, everything clicked with the boys, and with some really good looking, passing football they fi nished the group stages with fi ve wins and one draw, topping the group, moving onto the semi-fi nals

The semi-fi nal was against AFC Poole, but despite giving absolutely everything, the boys lost in a close game 2-0. We all went away very happy with the performance as it was the furthest we had progressed in a tournament.

Home Tournament: We were very excited about our home Broadstone FC Tournament in July, as it was the fi rst time that the club had ever hosted. Again, we faced some tough opposition including Poole Town, Longfl eet and Dorchester Town. Two of these teams contained ex- teammates and the boys were determined to beat them. We had a great start with the fi rst few games – although low scoring, they were convincing wins.

The hardest game was Dorchester, and during an ‘end to end’ game, we were eventually beaten 1-0. The boys kept their heads up and won their remaining games, and, after winning the group, progressed again to the semi- fi nals.

This semi-fi nal was made all the more interesting as we were to play our sister team, ‘Broadstone Colts’. This was a very dramatic game, which could have gone either way at any time, it fi nished in a very fair 1-1 draw. This meant we went to penalties, three each. After three brave players put themselves forward, it ended 2-2 and went to sudden death, A fourth player stepped up to score for Broadstone FC, the Colts miss, we were in the fi nal!

Now we had to play Dorchester again, who had won their semi-fi nal. The boys were pumped and raring to go, but nervous. One player remarked to me, that it was scary, as we had never been in a fi nal before. The coaching staff reassured the boys, that it was just like any other game, go out there and do your best, whatever the result, we have got further than ever before.

This was one of the closest games we had ever played, both team holding the others at bay right until the fi nal whistle. Penalties AGAIN!

The same three boys decide to go again, the remaining players, arm in arm on the centre line. After two penalties each it was 2-2, Dorchester take their third, it goes wide! We just need to score. A confi dent Broadstone forward approaches the penalty spot and smashes the ball into the back of the net! He turns to run back, and is met halfway by his team, who bundle each other to the fl oor in what we are now calling a ‘Champions heap’!

Manager of the season awards: Our Under 11 Colts and Under 14s managers picked up the manager of the season award at the Dorset FA AGM in July. Congratulations to Matt Cockwell and Tim Lee!
