Girlguiding
When the activities organiser at Park Manor Care Home where I work found out I was a Brownie leader, she asked if the Brownies would like to visit one evening to entertain the residents. I asked the girls at our next meeting and they liked the idea, so we set a date.
The fi rst Tuesday after half term, 17 girls, fi ve leaders and two young leaders arrived at the home. The girls were looking forward to the evening, but were even more excited when they discovered the home’s golden retriever, Stanley, would be joining us too.
Once everyone had arrived, we made our way into the lounge to the sound of the residents clapping – they had been looking forward to our arrival.

We entertained the residents by singing songs from the Wizard of Oz and Beauty and the Beast. One resident said she used to be a Brownie Leader, so we sang Brownie Bells and other Girlguiding songs. When we stopped for a drink and snack the girls spoke to the residents, showing them photos from past meetings and pack holidays. The girls expressed how much they were looking forward to this year’s pack holiday.
It was soon time for everyone to say goodbye. The resident’s were still talking about the Brownies a couple of days later, so another visit is on the cards.
