Poole Athletic Club Watching the World Athletics Championships

A number of our members bought tickets for the 16th IAAF World Championships in London in August. They had a singular, thrilling, noisy experience as part of the 60,000 crowd. For those watching on TV we produced a document called “What to watch for in the World Championships”. This included some key personalities, plus observable points, such as counting the stride patterns in the 400m Hurdles!

New Meeting Record

On July 29 at Kingston, William R (pictured) competed for Dorset in the Southern Inter- Counties u-13s annual match. He won the Boys’ 1500m in a new Meeting Record of 4-30.75. However a small Dorset team fi nished last of the 13 counties.

Impacting Poole Junior ParkRun

In August, two young PAC athletes, Liam O (14) and the same William R (11) helped each other to take the boys’ time for this free 2km event to a new level. Liam – a multi-sport world champion in Florida in 2016 – set the pace, but by the fi nish William had chased him down. William’s new course record is 6-15, with Liam on 6-20. This event is open to young athletes aged 4-14 and starts from The Ark at 9am every Sunday.
