Broadstone Horticultural Society Summer Show
Broadstone Horticultural Society held its annual Summer Show in the War Memorial Hall on Saturday 12th August. This popular show has been running for over 100 years. There were a number of new exhibitors and an increase in entries.
The judges were impressed with the standard of entries and consider the show to be one of the best in the area. David Bassil was awarded the
Society Championship Shield, The Portman Cup for Dahlia classes and the Tebbs Cup for most points in fruit and vegetable classes. Bill Howarth received the Banksian Medal awarded
by the RHS for highest prize money and the Young Cup for highest points in fl ower classes.
Ruth Howarth was awarded the Osman Brown Memorial cup for best exhibit in Floral Art and the Golden Jubilee Rose bowl for highest points in Floral Art. The Cotton Cup for highest points in Fruit classes was won by Marianne Williamson and the
Llewellyn Cup for cookery by Elizabeth Campbell-Smith. Tony Martin won the Maginess Cup for Photography. The Putnam Cup for member family with most points was won by Robin and Denise Hill and the Felstead cup for
best entry in Vegetable classes was won by Sheila Townsend. Erin Hall and Spencer Hall won the Giblin Cups for children’s classes. This had been donated some years ago by their grandfather.
