Unfortunately there have been several reports of thefts from sheds and garages across Poole recently. Thieves tend to go for the high value power tools, so please take a moment to read the following crime prevention advice:
S ecure the access to your shed or garage by locking gates and using thorny bushes next to walls/fences.
H ave you visibly marked the contents of you shed? Make a note of serial numbers and photograph valuable plants and ornaments.
E xternal security lights, which are activated by movement, are a useful deterrent.
D oors of sheds require attention. Use strong padbars and close shackle padlocks. Up and over garage doors supplied with standard lock fi ttings should be secure with locks or grilles.
U se coach bolts or non-return screws to secure hinges.
C hain cycles, mowers, ladders and tools to a strong anchorage point.
A larms for sheds and garages are available at most DIY stores and builders merchants.

E xactly what insurance cover do you have? Check that your household policy covers you for theft from your garden and outbuildings.
