Springdale School News

Stepping into Autumn at Springdale First School There is always a sense of excitement at the start of any term and particularly so at the beginning of a new school year. It is always a pleasure to welcome our new children and their families and to see them settling into school life. Likewise, new staff have joined the school and I know they are eager to not only be a part of the Springdale team, but also a part of the wider community.

Involvement with the local community, both in Broadstone and in Corfe Mullen, is an aspect of school life that we feel is very important. It helps our children to have a sense of belonging, to begin to understand how they can be good citizens and to make a contribution to our community. During this term we are looking forward to celebrating harvest at Broadstone Methodist Church, holding a Carol service at the United Reformed Church for our oldest children, to our choir singing at the Community Carol Service and participating in the Broadstone Christmas Parade.

Helping our children to be sensible and safe is another part of our work. Many of you will know of the installation of a zebra crossing in Lewesdon Drive, rather than having a school crossing patrol. Although the school wasn’t consulted on this, we are viewing this as an opportunity to teach our children how to use such crossings safely and to reinforce road safety messages. Members of the Borough transportation team have been involved both at the site and also through leading information sessions for children.

We’re looking forward to a range of visits and visitors to enhance our children’s experiences and to bring learning to life and sharing our news in future articles.
