EMERGENCY RESPONSE
In addition, the primary health care role that the medics provided, running daily clinics, ensured we lost no time at all to major or minor health issues. The medics, in their dual role as riggers, were also a key part of our own rigging team meaning there was no uplift in compliment but we had first class medical support. We will definitely be using SSI’s services for future projects.”
CARDIAC ARREST SSI Energy provides emergency response technicians and rescue training to windfarms on and offshore across Europe. An SSI medic recently saved a life on a windfarm in Ireland. A technician suffered a cardiac arrest and
the SSI Medic kept him alive during the long journey from windfarm to receiving hospital treatment. SSI has also been providing emergency response and rope rescue training recognising that the GWO courses fall short of training on the client’s turbines, those used day-in, day-out. SSI carry out on-site training ensuring technicians are confident performing rescues with their own equipment, from their own turbines.
REMOTE LOCATIONS Emergency medical care to remote locations, providing definitive care inside the Golden Hour, has become a requirement for many operators and is even more pertinent with windfarms getting larger and further offshore. SSI’s medical response capability goes way beyond even the most experienced of first aiders. Unlike other providers of offshore medics, SSI has a unique model of providing the medic as a member of the technician team, resulting in virtually no additional cost.
OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SSI typically employs former-military medics, highly enthusiastic and with a zest for learning new skills and have now operated in roles as varied as technicians, riggers, HSE reps and more. Primarily the medic has been on site in case of catastrophic injury or medical emergency, however, an added value is the occupational health role, aided by SSI’s doctor support, providing advice and support to the medic via sat phone. This additional service enables clients to make decisions based on medically qualified advice as to whether a patient is evacuated, requires rest but stays offshore, or returns to work; these critical decisions prevent unnecessary medivac and crew-changes.
