CABLE SOLUTIONS

LEADING FROM THE FRONT

With a history stretching back 20 years IHC Engineering Business has always led from the front in trenching technology. For the safe and reliable burial of subsea pipes and cable the offshore industry has made the company its first port of call. Three high-profile projects completed in 2016 and 2017 are reinforcing an enviable track record in subsea ploughs and tracked trenchers.

CABLE PLOUGHS

The Sea Stallion range of cable ploughs have buried in excess of 10,000km of cables throughout the world. The latest Sea Stallion, operates in 2,000m of water and can bury cables up to Ø150mm to a trench depth of 3m. It will trench in soils from 5kPa to 350kPa. It has just successfully completed a deep water sea trial and is imminently due

to commence its first commercial project.

Another brand new system, the Advanced Cable Plough 2 [ACP2] is the first in the offshore industry to be optimised for high performance in all areas but especially for the safe handling of large diameter power cables. This machine is unique in its ability to accommodate products up to Ø300mm with a minimum bend radius of 5m and to offer both simultaneous lay and trench and post lay trenching (seabed cable loading). ACP2 is designed to DeepOcean’s specification. It is mobilised onto their state of the art power cable installation vessel Maersk Connector and is working on a prestigious windfarm cable installation project including the first engineered grounding shore pull-in and trench.

WINDFARM CABLE TRENCHING The all-new Hi-Traq is the world’s first subsea trencher specifically designed for the burial of windfarm power cables. The notoriously harsh shallow water

environments, typical of windfarms on the European continental shelf, present special challenges for installation contractors. Hi-Traq, with its unique four-track chassis, is designed to provide enhanced steering and traction performance in the toughest subsea environments. The ability to operate from a range of vessels, its extended weather window and high sea-state launch and recovery capability all combine to reduce project risk, time and cost. Hi-Traq has successfully competed factory testing including an extensive land trial where it was able to trench a 2.0m trench in 5MPa concrete at up to 250m/hr; truly ground breaking.
