Going Out - Page 51 “Girl Power” Team raises 3,100€

to help “Make a Smile” These brave ladies from Javea’s Original Charity Shop hiked a very strenuous 29 km from Mirador la Grandella to the Mirador los Molinos, passing through all 15 of Javea’s Miradors.

The team set out hoping to raise 2,000€ for the “Make a Smile” charity which supports the Emaús children's homes. Along the Arenal the girls were cheered on by lots of shop staff, and President Georgie Harvey and Treasurer Sylvia Jackson took great pleasure in presenting them with a cheque for 1,000€. The team was also sponsored by shop staff, friends and family whose extremely generous contributions brought the total up to the fantastic amount of 3,100€! Thank you everyone; raising such a fabulous amount made the effort well worth it.

Some of the money will be invested in the Relleu Self Sufficiency Project and the Arts and Crafts Unit which provides occupational therapy for 24 mentally challenged youngsters. The farm near Relleu holds regular open days where you can visit the Self Sufficiency Project and enjoy a delicious lunch. Veggie boxes, eggs and olive oil are also on sale and you can even sponsor an olive tree. All these activities help with the running costs of the home. For more information please see www.makeasmile.es. Make a Smile and help make a difference to these children’s lives!

Dennis and Barbara accept any household items, furniture,

electrical and clothes etc for the recycle projects.

They are happy to do total house clearances. The items are given a bit of TLC and sold in rastros and auctions to provide funds for the Emaús homes’ daily needs.

The Make A Smile Greenhouse Project Self Sufficiency Programme

The project combines a team of volunteers planting, harvesting and cultivating the land to produce farm fresh vegetables and fresh pressed Olive Oil at the EMAUS home for mentally challenged youngsters.

Chickens lay 800 eggs a week and along with the veggie bags bought by the general public, this helps to generate much needed funds to provide the essentials for them to survive. Help us to help them by volunteering on the farm or buying your vegetables from us each week!

The English Choir of Teulada- Moraira's Spring concert in Moraira’s Parish Church saw a very enthusiastic audience demand

an encore. The choir rose to the

occasion and sang one of their oldest and best loved favourites. The gentlemen started off singing “I Believe”and the ladies merged in with them but singing “Ave Maria”. It was breathtakingly beautiful and a very fitting end to this lovely concert presented in such a lovely setting as the Moraira Parish Church.

The proceeds from this concert will be for The Alzheimer's Society and a donation will be given to Moraira Church funds. The choir will be playing their part in Moraira’s Moors and Christians Fiesta. They will be presenting another concert in the church on Monday 5th June at 9pm and on Saturday 10th June will be singing from the castle ramparts to accompany the re-enactment battle taking place on the beach. For further information about the choir and forthcoming events please check out their website www.theenglishchoirteulada.com or www.facebook.com/EnglishChoirTeulada.
