CHUMS helping The Franciscan Shelter for Men in Gandia
On Tuesday 16th May, three members of CHUMS (friends of charity) visited The Franciscan Shelter for Men in Gandia. They provide care and nursing for around 65 men, many of whom suffer from mental or physical illness, some of whom are terminal. The hospice is funded wholly by charity and three
Franciscan monks and dedicated volunteers give round the clock care. We had a tour of the home and it was spotless and all the residents were clean and tidy. We were so impressed we donated 410€ toward the electric bill. We felt that they were doing such a wonderful job and we were delighted to help. We are just a small, friendly, registered charity and if you feel you would like more information about us please ring Marilyn on 965 864 394. We are based in Benidorm and Albir.
Guardian Angels Donation
Our lovely former member Sam Cavanagh, Jávea Estates and her boyfriend Niko, recently ran the Valencian Marathon. It was Sam's first, and Sam was the first woman from Jávea to cross the finish line.
It was Niko's second marathon, and they completed it in 3 hours 52 minutes, 50 seconds. They ran the marathon on behalf of Guardian Angels, as Sam wanted to support the charity which she says supported her when she needed help the most. So a big thank you
to Sam and Niko, Jávea Estates for the amazing amount raised of 717€ - WOW! Sam and Niko are picured with Gill Somers - Acting President

Cancer Care Jávea recently had an incredible donation from John Styles and his wife. The following text is from John himself explaining why he chose to raise money to give to Cancer Care Jávea. Cancer Care are very grateful to John and his friends for such a wonderful donation, which will go towards the ECMOR Foundation at Denia Hospital and other cancer related projects local to Jávea.
“My experience with cancer started over one year ago, when I woke one morning in terrible pain. I asked a friend to take me to Denia Hospital, it turned out to be a urine infection. I then went to see my own doctor and was diagnosed with prostrate cancer which I received treatment for in the form of a course of tablets and chemo. I have had good results and wanted to give something back to a cancer charity. Nearly everyone knows a family member or friend who has been affected. On the occasion of my 70th birthday we arranged a party at Quo Vardis in Jávea. In the form of a raffle and auction we were able to raise 1800€. We were very impressed with the support we received from businesses and restaurants, in the form of gifts for Cancer Care. A big thank you to everyone in helping to make the evening a success.” The picture shows John Styles with Carol Pluck (L), President of Cancer Care and Yvonne Larkin owner of The Nail Station, Jávea, who helped John organise the raffle and auction.
