TEAM FOCUS – Broadstone Under 8s & 9s Broadstone Under 9s:
This season saw us move up from 5-a-side games to 7-a-side. This change has meant that a number of new players joined us this year, increasing our squad from ten players to seventeen. After a tough start to the season, with players getting used to tactics and positions for 7-a-side games, the team has improved week on week, with eight victories in our last ten games.
The fi rst friendly game of the season saw a turnout of around 15 players for the U8 Boys team at
Broadstone. Playing 5-a-side, it quickly became clear that another team was needed – and so the Boys Under 8s Colts were formed.
We have had a core group of seven footballers – Albert, Paulo, Jack, Chase, Charlie, Aiden and Archie. Michael played his fi rst game last week and made a great debut.
The team has gone from strength to strength. Most importantly all the boys have really enjoyed their football and there has been a great team spirit. The boys play good football and the emphasis has been on playing for the team.
The player of the week trophy is now in two halves! Big thanks to all the parents, not only for their support each week, but also the super glue and the attempts to put the trophy back together! I think the boys actually prefer the smaller version of our trophy!
Highlights of the season have been penalty saves from Paulo, goal saving tackles from Albert and Jack, great goals from Charlie and Archie, great midfi eld play from Chase; and after another superb all round performance from Aidan, his celebratory lap of the pitch after winning ‘player of the week’!
Many thanks to Adam and Spencer for all their support and training the boys each week – it is much appreciated. Big thanks as well to Chris (Dobo) who has now sadly left for pastures new with Charlie.

The team has a great bunch of characters, training is always fun, but they also work hard focusing on their technique so they can pass the ball confi dently in matches. Many thanks must go to Keith Saunders who comes up with training sessions that are fun, whilst teaching skills at the same time.
As this season comes to an end we look forward to the summer tournaments (and a rest!). Many thanks to all the parents for their support, especially with the away trips to Weymouth and Portland.
