Broadstone Neighbourhood Watch It hardly seems possible that another year
has gone by and it is time for me to express my thanks, and the thanks of all of our members, to the hardworking volunteers of the Broadstone Neighbourhood Watch.
We are one of the most successful Watch groups in Dorset and this is down to the dedication of the committee and the distribution team of co-ordinators and contacts led by Alan and Stella Lewis. I must also pay tribute to our local police team, who protect and serve us and who must share our frustration at the regular reshuffl e that takes place within their team. I do hope that our new offi cers will be allowed to get to know Broadstone in the coming months and that their faces will become familiar to you as they spend time in our community.
Over the last few months the committee has been supporting a number of initiatives across the community, and as Spring moves into Summer we are pleased to confi rm that our partnership with Dorset Police for bike marking will be continuing.
We would like to invite residents to bring their bikes along to Broadstone Youth Centre on Wednesday 21st June between 5.30 and 8.30pm. Everyone is welcome, but we hope that the Rough Riders who meet in Broadstone on a Wednesday evening, and children and young people will especially take advantage of this offer. Expensive specialist cycles and children’s bikes are the most commonly stolen in this area.
Refreshments will also be available for sale at the Youth Club whilst you wait, and we are trying to obtain some ramps to set up in the school playground as well. Children’s scooters may also be brought along to this event.
A further BNW funded bike marking session will be taking place at the Broadstone Family Fun Day on Sunday 2nd July.
I am also delighted that Springdale First, Broadstone First and Broadstone Middle Schools have all benefi tted from Broadstone Neighbourhood Watch grants to take children to visit Safewise in Bournemouth. The safety centre gives children a real life understanding of the dangers in our community and I know all the children and staff enjoyed their trips.

Finally, we were able to fund repairs to the pool hoist at Broadstone Leisure Centre. This essential piece of equipment enables those with physical disabilities to access the pool, allowing them to play a positive part in community life and to stay fi tter and healthier. One of our revised priorities is to reduce isolation and vulnerabilities for residents and the committee felt that providing this assistance fulfi lled that responsibility.

Thank you to all the residents who have been in touch to let us know about missing Neighbourhood Watch street signs. We expect the changeover to LED lighting to be completed later this year, so we hope that the incidence of signs going missing will reduce. We have passed lists to Borough of Poole and hope that replacements will be put in place over the coming months. Please do let me know if any more go walkabout!
