Beaumaris Castle

Started in 1295 yet left unfinished, Beaumaris is the last and largest of the castles King Edward I had built in Wales. Widely considered to be the most technically perfect castle in Britain, it was designed by Edward’s mason-architect, Master James of St George. Now a World Heritage Site, the castle’s formidable defences with their ingenuous ‘walls within walls’ design still stand proud over 700 years later.

Plas Newydd

With views across the Menai Strait towards the majestic mountains of Snowdonia, this elegant 18th century house is home to a military museum, filled with relics from the First Marquess of Anglesey, who led the cavalry at the Battle of Waterloo.

Outside, take a relaxing stroll around the spring garden and Australasian arboretum which are abundant with shrubs and wild flowers, plus a mass of hydrangea that give the grounds a blaze of colour in autumn.
