creepy character, while enjoying gruesome games and ghoulish grub, Halloween can be frighteningly good fun. But away from the tacky costumes and
trick or treaters, if you prefer your Halloween to be a bit more macabre, head out on a ghost walk and discover some of the truly horrible history of many of the UK’s main cities. So here’s a scary selection of some of the best and most beastly.

Leaving from Chester Town Hall’s Information Centre at 7.30pm every Saturday night, you’ll be taken around all kinds of haunted hangouts, touring the city’s ancient walls and learning something of its mysterious and murky history. Despite some steps, steep inclines and much scariness along the way, children are welcome to come along.

Starting out from York’s historic Minster, itself the setting for many a supernatural sighting, this 70 minute tour takes you around many of the city’s most haunted locations, giving you a real insight into what life was like in years gone by while giving you a serious case of the goosebumps. Wheelchair and buggy friendly, the tour runs every evening from 7.30pm.
