Brooklands Museum Trust in 1987 which should not be forgotten.

The unveiling of the Monument group included, for aviators, Sir Thomas Sopwith; S C H Davis, holder of a 120mph badge, for drivers and Noel Pope, holder of the lap record for motor cycles. Bill Boddy was present as Editor of Motor Sport and Davis was Sports Editor of The Autocar. At the end of the unveiling, by Lord Brabazon, an early competitor at the Track, the parade was led at considerable speed by Kaye Don, driving a Sunbeam. There was a general feeling that this could not be the end of such a famous place. Motor Sport [helped] established the

Brooklands Society, with Bill Boddy as a director, who later persuaded Vickers to permit a small number of people to enter Brooklands, a secure site, the centre of much secret work. It was Kenneth Evans, a Brooklands Society

Vice-President and qualified surveyor, who secured ‘listing’ of a number of structures to

be protected, but he excluded the Dunlop building.

It was very fortunate that during the sale of the site and through planning enquiries Brooklands Society member Sir Geoffrey Pattie, a local Member of Parliament and Minister for Defence Procurement, gave invaluable assistance to progress to what we have today. The local planning authority, Elmbridge

Borough Council, established a sub-committee chaired by Cty Cllr F E Mallett to produce a study for the museum. Donors International Research and Development was employed by the council and three Brooklands Society directors were invited to sit on the sub- committee. In due course the council accepted the report of the sub-committee and established the Brooklands Museum Trust, a registered charity, with £650,000, in 1987.

Yours sincerely, K R Day, Weybridge
