in the Race Bays gave rides to children … of all ages!
The ‘Loan and Competition Models’ tables in the Napier Room were filled with work entered by individuals, many of them previous medal winners, including one by Andrew McLeish of an Allchin traction engine – without doubt one of the finest ever made. This model went on to win the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh Challenge Trophy which is open to all past gold and silver medal winners. Andrew also exhibited, for the first time, a recently completed scroll clock of breathtaking beauty – and another gold medal winner!
We were especially delighted to have several examples of work by the esteemed Cherry Hill, regarded as one of the finest model engineers the hobby has ever known, and we were thrilled to feature – all the way from Australia – a beautiful Saunderson & Mills tractor, currently being described by George Punter in Model Engineer. Another gold medal winner and a truly exceptional model. The competition entries flowed in and, again, the subjects featured were many and varied. The benchmark Model Engineer Exhibition Com- petition has been the most highly respected in the field since its inception in 1907 and a medal won here is something to be treasured forever.
Although only a few of the outstanding engineering models have been mentioned here, a

full list of medal winners has been published in the current Model Engineer magazine, issue 4545. Sponsored by the publishers of Model Engineer, My Time Media, and generously supported by the Society of Model and Experimental Engineers, the exhibition opened on Friday 16th September and ran through until Sunday 18th, with around 3,500 visitors across the weekend.
