The fire expo attracts thousands of fire apparatus purchasers from throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. Spacious circus- style tents are erected to showcase everything from t-shirts to flashing lights, as well as the latest firetruck technology. There are clambakes, a blazing bonfire and more. “What ties this and all our events together,” says Lynch, “are the ocean and the beach, which we use to our full advantage.”
In nearby Fox Park, event groups hold old-fashioned games, such as tug of war, three-legged races and, naturally, beach volleyball.
The whole community sometimes gets involved. Each year, a Youth for Christ gathering is held in the Wildwoods. Kids are sent out to the boardwalk with $5 in their pockets. Their task is to barter for goods and services. Whoever comes
back with the best deal wins a trophy. “Merchants have a lot of fun with this,” comments Lynch. “Best of all, this group and others have such a great time, they want to return again and again.”
