for your event. In the winter, there is a fes- tive ice rink and winter cabin."

"Dilworth Park is Philadelphia’s most iconic backdrop for events," Anello con- tinues. "It is steps from the Pennsylvania Convention Center and is located over a major transit hub, so it is easy and con- venient to reach. John F. Collins Park is a pocket park at 17th and Chestnut - a hushed, landscaped hideaway tucked within Center City’s bustling business dis- trict. It is truly an oasis and private haven that features a sculpture fountain and stunning iron gates.”

Like Joe Capone, Anello recommends considering things like power needs and water sources, adding not to overlook the little things, “like bugs, sun burn (or frost bite, depending on the season), allergies, stings, and tripping hazards caused by things like uneven terrain or ice.”

Rob Carachilo, owner and managing part- ner of Roberts Event Group, is able to offer some insight from a planner’s per- spective on such unique outdoor loca- tions, suggesting it is always best to have a Plan B and Plan C for outdoor events in case extreme weather threatens the fun. “Rain insurance can be used to protect event expenses when tenting just won’t do,” he says, adding, however, that many “rain or shine events are held successfully with tenting, umbrellas and the right atti- tude.”

Vicki Pohl, director of catering for Garces Catering, also offers some tips and a bit of her perspective when it comes to holding successful outdoor events.“Party crashers can be difficult to control at some out- door locations, but if you establish points of entry and sufficient detail, this can be easily monitored properly. Being consci- entious of noise ordinances also plays a

big part in the success of an outdoor event. Cover your bases, know the rules, plan accordingly, and play nicely in the sandbox.”

Being playful outside is,of course, part of the charm at many of the new and trendy outdoor event spaces. Garces Group can be found at Dilworth Park, Spruce Street Harbor Park and SummerFest /Winterfest locations, where combined you can find everything from a river with boating activ- ities to an amazing landscape with exist- ing interactive décor to photo opportuni- ties galore to fun activities like roller skat- ing, ice skating and life-sized games.

For those who plan events outdoors, the rewards are often abundant. Notes Sarah Anello, “Being outdoors is proven to improve mood, boosts creativity and con- centration, and it gives a boost ofVitamin D, too. Taking advantage of the weather
